"Paper Planes" by Kevin Box

Linda Mihara - Origami is an endless fascination for me, I find it the ultimate challenge in creativity and design, and to discover new folds or figures is immensely rewarding. My goal as an artist is to present origami as an art form, celebrated for both its simple elegance and its mind-boggling complexity."

Linda Tomoko Mihara has been folding origami since the age of five. She is the Granddaughter of Tokinobu Mihara, author and publisher of ORIGAMI- JAPANESE ART OF PAPER FOLDING, volumes 1 and 2, two of the first origami books written in English in the 1950's.

For over 20 years, Linda has pioneered the ART OF ONE THOUSAND CRANES, known as Sembazuru in Japanese. She has been called an origami magician as she creates framed artwork for weddings using one thousand cranes as her palette. Her custom designs include traditional family crests, modern kimonos, fans, and waves.

Linda specializes in the art of CONNECTED CRANES where a single sheet of paper is carefully cut then folded, forming multiple cranes that are still attached to one another. She holds the honor of creating the world’s first 3D connected-crane model named the “Peace Sphere” which took her five years to develop. Following this, Linda created the "Crane Cube", a three-dimensional cube of 54 cranes which was premiered at the 2005 Masters of Origami exhibit in Salzburg, Austria to critical acclaim. Linda's next creation, the 3D "Crane Pyramid", will be premiered this July at Tansu's Origami Festival in Houston!

As an accomplished teacher of origami, Linda is highly sought after to teach at festivals and events around the world. Her many TV appearances include the Carol Duvall Show (HGTV), KRON-TV News Weekend (S.F.), and Evening Magazine (S.F.). She has been featured in a special Cherry Blossom Festival edition of Dennis the Menace comics as well as in numerous San Francisco news publications and magazines. Her clients include Mitsubishi Motors, Bank of America, the Wall Street Journal, Industrial Light and Magic, VISA, Chanel, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the Nikko Hotel in San Francisco. She recently partnered with Robert Lang on a ground breaking commerical for Mitsubishi Motors, which shows the Endeavor driving through a magical world of origami!

Linda is married and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where she is currently working on her first origami book.
